Yes it is possible to do Vegas on a budget and you should start with budget hotels. This can make a huge difference to the size of the dent in your wallet and enables you have a great holiday with decent accommodation.
The Golden Nugget is named after the biggest chunk of gold ever found, which weighed a massive 61 pounds 11 ounces. Funnily enough it was discovered in Australia and not anywhere near Vegas, but you can see it under glass close to the North Tower elevators. The Golden Nugget is downtown's best address although it does attract many a hip retiree. It offers a spread of table gambling and DJ's spin tunes into the night at Gold Diggers night club. The biggest attraction for me is the three story water slide which sends you shooting through a 200 000 gallon shark tank into the pool outside.
The Sahara, who stands majestically on the North Strip is one of the true Vegas survivors and one of the last vintage icons to hold it's ground against the landslide of modern hotel mega resorts. The Sahara is beautifully Moroccan themed and hustles the widest variety of card gambling on the Strip. These days it is not as glamorous as it once was when Elvis and Elisabeth Taylor used to lounge by the pool, but still offers great accommodation and entertainment with competitive pricing.
Main Street Station Casino has wonderful objets d' histoire like the Art Nouveau chandelier from Paris and the exquisite stained glass windows from the mansion of Lillian Gish, silent movie star. Main Street Station is situated on north main Street and offers a wide range of rooms to suit any budget and offers classic entertainment including a Bingo Room. a pool and a variety of shows.
Las Vegas has such a huge range of accommodation, you are spoilt for choice. If you are on a budget check with the hotel of your choice that they aren't hosting a convention when you are looking to stay as this can push prices up dramatically!
